Hiiumaa, Estonia
Ristna Cape is a windswept headland on the western tip of Hiiumaa, Estonia’s second-largest island. Surrounded by the Baltic Sea, the cape is renowned among local wind and water sports enthusiasts for its powerful winds and exposed location. The spot features a mix of sandy and rocky shoreline, with a wide open bay that receives both wind-driven chop and, in autumn, decent Baltic swells. The area is wild and relatively undeveloped, with pine forests and a historic lighthouse providing a scenic backdrop. Ristna is best known for its strong autumn and spring winds, which can reach 25-35 knots during storms. The spot is accessible by car via ferry from the mainland, with parking available near the beach. Basic amenities include a small surf camp, seasonal café, and some guesthouses in the nearby village of Kalana. The local kitesurfing scene is small but active, with occasional events and meetups organized by Estonian kite clubs.
